In the History (launching) of the Tecumseh, there is NO mention of a Very Unique part of the Tecumseh launch at EB.
That is the DUAL (Simultaneous) launch of the USS Flasher (SSN 613). Did your historian not know of this???
FYI, I rode the Tecumseh down the Launching Ways as part of the "Commissioning Crew".

Thanks John, I'm not sure if we have an official historian.
I did NOT know this.
Do you know exactly when the name got changed from William Penn to Tecumseh?
What did you do on Tecumseh?
Regards, Sid......

I did too. One north yard and the other in the south. Also FYI Jim French 1st M-Div Blue Leading Chief passed away last spring (09). He had asbestos and broke his arm and the operation was to much for him.

Sid, Sadly I have found recently that certain "Historians" are suffering form a serious case of "Cranial Rectalitis". I served aboard the Tecumseh from June 1963 to April 1965, as part of the "Preconstruction & Commissioning Crew (Blue Crew) I Rode her down the Building Ways. By the way, I supplied copies of some if not all of the "Launching" Photo's and some "First Cover" Postcards/envelopes.
The "Name Change" occured long before the Launching & Commissioning. I was changed (if my feeble memeory serves me) due to complaints from "anti-war" & other peace groups as William Penn (one of the "Founding Fathers" was supposedly against all forms or warfare. I am positive that I would have to do some considerable "Historical Research" in order to verify his "Own Personal Stance" As I'm sure you know, the "PeaceNik's of the world have a history of "Bending and Twisting the Facts" to suit thier point of view and agenda.
Respectfully.

Barry, Sure sorry to hear about Chief French, although I did not know him. Rest your Oars Jim.......
John, Thanks for the history lesson. I have since read this fact about the "dual launch" on some submarine website, but right now I cannot recall wich one. That is very interesting about the Name Change. I have always thought that Tecumseh was sure an interesting choice for a name.
Riding down the ways, I'll bet that was a lot of fun, were you on Topside??.
A Quartermaster huh?, I was an ICman, so as the AEF, (Aux Elect Fwd), I spent a lot of time with my butt in that little chair in the control room right between the QM Plotter and the Dead Reckoning Analyzer. I always liked that spot, because at least I always knew what little square we were roaming around in... ha ha...
I wish I had a photo of that little corner of the control room.
